DIGGIT
Two daily games, 5 holes each

How to play Diggit

Dig

You get a target, like “a mountain with a summit closest to 5,000 m”. Type any real mountain. Misspell it and we'll ask “Did you mean…?”. You have 30 seconds.

Estimate

You get a real thing, like “What's the population of Germany?”, and type a number. “84 million”, “84m” and “84,000,000” all work.

Hotter/Colder

An endless bonus mode. We show you one real thing and its number, like “Mont Blanc: 4,806 m”. Is the next one higher or lower? Three lives, 12 seconds a question, and the numbers get closer as your score climbs.

Scoring

  • Strike within 3%: 100 points
  • Deep within 13%: about 85 points or more
  • Solid within 35%: about 65 points or more
  • Shallow within 2×: about 35 points or more
  • Clunk further off, but still a few points

Prospector bonus: in the Dig, a Deep or better answer that nobody else has picked for that hole earns +20 points. Unique thinking pays.

Each question shows a well-known example “for scale” to get you in the right ballpark. After each hole you see how many players you beat and how everyone did. The best answers unlock in the archive once the day is over.

Questions

How does Diggit work?
Each day there are two rounds of 5 holes. In the Dig, you get a target number and name a real thing that comes as close to it as you can. In the Estimate, you get a real thing and guess its number. The closer you are, the deeper your drill goes.
How is closeness scored?
For most holes it's the percentage you're off by, so 10% off counts the same for a mountain as for a country. Years are scored by how many years off you are. Within 3% is a Strike and scores the full 100 points. Being 50% off still scores about half.
How deep can I dig?
Every point takes you 12.7 km deeper, and a Strike is a full 1,274 km. A good day gets you past the ruins and fossils into the crystal caves or the mantle. Five perfect holes reach the center of the Earth, 6,371 km down.
Where do the numbers come from?
From Wikidata and the World Bank. Each day's answer list is saved with the round, so the numbers never change after a day is published.
Is it free? Do I need an account?
Yes, it's free, and there's no sign-up. Your progress is saved on your device.
Why can't I see the best answers right away?
So they can't be passed around while the day is still being played. Once every time zone has finished the day, the best answers and real numbers unlock in the archive.
What are skins and trails?
Cosmetics for your drill, unlocked by achievements like landing Strikes, keeping streaks and reaching the core. Equip them under Me → Locker. Other players see your drill's colors in their dig.
Who am I playing against?
Everyone who plays that day. While Diggit is new, the field also includes simulated players whose answers are modeled on how people really play, so there's always someone to beat. They're phased out as more real players join.
Can I play more than once a day?
The daily rounds are once a day so everyone competes on the same holes. Practice gives you unlimited random rounds, and the archive has every past day.
